Aim: To work cooperatively in groups to answer an exam question.
We'll pick up where we left off yesterday. We will watch the commercial again and discuss some of the key questions. You will then be assigned into groups and given one of the 4 questions. You should discuss the question together and share your ideas. In groups you should write the response together. We will then shake the groups up so all the questions are covered. Each member should read their team's response to the new group. You should make notes and ask them questions. You will now be given the mark scheme - we will look at this together & discuss.
Homework: Have a go at the exam and sort out your revision folders.
Period 2 - 13 Media

You will only have this week's lessons to complete your coursework. This should be ready by Friday.
We need to start our revision next week and look at exam preparation.

Look at the handout from Tom Ryall 'Genre and Hollywood'. Read together. These are important handouts and you must re-read them and learn!!!!
Homework: Research & Revision
GANGSTER
Below are few links to sites with a quick overview. There's lots of info out there
A good starting point. Has an extensive list of crime movies, posters and links to other sites. When you click on a text is does take you back to imdb so nothing new.
I love this site. Loads of background to the genre, texts and real gangsters.
Some great essays/articles
Excellent for 1930-1938 texts and cultural context.
GENRE
Good, clear definitions of the concepts with sections on industry, audience, subgenres. There's bags of info here.
Excellent and detailed. Some parts/sections are challenging. About as good as it gets. Click on Film studies. I reccommend the essays by Daniel Chandler.
what_is_genre_and_how_is_it_used_in
Easy to read theory.
Loads of resources on different concepts. On the right you'll see Gangsters listed. There is a link to screen online which is also full of useful things. Try a search on directors or British films. Go to 16+
Period 5 - 12 Media
Aim: To understand the layout and format of the MEST1 exam: Focus is on Section A
Today we will look at an exam paper together. I will distribute the information. Read on your own. Q&A Layout and style of the paper. The exam paper will always provide the questions and information about the text first. These questions are then in the answer booklet.
Remember you will always be asked 4 questions on:
- Media Forms
- Media Institutions
- Media Representations
- Media Audience
To get an idea of the exam experience we will play the full disc. You should listen to the instructions given. You will see the text 3 times and you should have a go at making notes. You will be working on your written responses next lesson.
Homework: You need to organise a revision file. Separate your notes into the sections based on the 4 questions. You will also need a section for past papers and responses, success criteria/mark schemes etc.
